In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable. ~Dwight D. Eisenhower
Plan For Success
Projects always have change but that’s no excuse for not building a proper plan. A lack of planning is an invitation to failure. Since starting our business in 1997, we’ve developed a planning process that brings consistency to our work, without requiring a long painful planning process.
A little planning goes a long way. And while we’ll keep your plan simple, we’ll also include enough detail to ensure your objectives are met, and your goals are aligned with those of your customer.
Design For A Purpose
Design is where your customers will interact with your brand, but it’s so much more than looking pretty. Good design will take into account how easy your site or application is to use, will ensure modern compliance standards are met, will operate fast (because no one likes to wait). Good design is also flexible enough to adjust to changing market conditions and is optimized to maximize conversions.
If the design doesn’t support the mission, it doesn’t really matter. That is why we prefer simple designs, with clear calls to action, that help the customer along in their journey.
WordPress To Our Core
When we started VSELLIS in 2008, we had deep expertise with enterprise content managemnt systems. But our desire to better serve the SMB market led us down the path of investigating opensource platforms that would be more economical for that client base.
We evaluated all of the big contenders at the time and came away with a decision to focus on WordPress because we knew we could hand off the final product to our customers, and they would be able to work with it. But even more so, we believed in the team behind WordPress and where they were going with the platform. It was the best decision we’ve ever made.
As our business has grown, so have the needs of our customers. And while our expertise runs deep on WordPress there are some applications which require a more customized approach.
For those clients, we build custom applications using PHP and the Laravel framework. Our own DispatchWP service is one such application but we’ve built many more. If you need something truly custom we would love to hear more and see if PHP/Laravel is a fit.
Knowledge Is Power
From day one our philosophy has been to be generous with our knowledge. Whether you’re a client, or a passer-by visiting our blog, we want you to share in the knowledge we’ve gained through hard work, failures, successes, and relentlessly learning new things.
We share a great deal on our blog but have also built formalized courses, provide in-person training, and will speak at events. In short, anything we can to share what we know with you.
While we started as coders and designers, we quickly came to appreciate the importance of helping our clients market their busienss in the digital age. In the world of marketing, much has changed and much has stayed the same.
We’ve never wanted to be all things to all people. So our marketing expertise is tied to our work. We only focus on online marketing, and we measure things objectively. SEO, pay-per-click ads, landing page optimization, content development, and social media are all squarely in our comfort zone.
From Project To Process
We have a tendency to love doing things that others despise. Building processes is one of those things. We’ve seen first hand the power that well documented processes have had on our business and we know the impact they can have for yours.
If you’re looking to formalize how you operate, streamline your work, or even automate tasks, it all begins with a clearly defined, well-documented process.
Meet The Leadership Team
*Headshaving is not required to work here (but it doesn’t hurt your odds).
Scott Ellis is the founder and CEO of VSELLIS. He started the company in 2008 and has never looked back. It hasn’t always been an easy road but he wouldn’t have it any other way. In addition to running the business day-to-day, Scott oversees creative, marketing, and process work for the company. Scott stared as a developer in 1997 but since has managed to amass an array of experience in other disciplines through his willingness to step in and do whatever is necessary.
Scott is married to Wendi McGowan-Ellis and loves to travel, sip wine, and once played in a heavy metal band in the late 80’s/early 90’s. If there is a documentary on science or dinosaurs, Scott’s probably seen it.
Han shot first.
Juan Rangel is the Lead Developer for VSELLIS and a proud native Texan. He is the most self-motivated software engineer you will ever meet. He joined VSELLIS in 2015 and has written more lines of code that we can count in that time. Juan spends his spare time coding (no seriously) and learning new aspects of his discipline. When he does step away from the computer he can be found spending time with his wife Roberta and their children.
Juan is a master griller, has a knack for photography, and loves the Dallas Cowboys.
We’re pretty sure he dreams in binary.
